At Mechanical Inspection Services, we hear a lot of creative variations when it comes to statutory equipment inspections — and one of our favourites is the classic mix-up between a LOLER inspection, LOLAR and a LOLA inspection.
Let’s clear it up…
LOLER stands for Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998.It’s the law that keeps lifting equipment safe, compliant, and operating as it should.
LOLA, on the other hand… doesn’t stand for anything inspection-related. It’s more likely a pop song, a person’s name, or what your spell-checker thinks you meant. Unfortunately, “LOLA inspections” won’t hold up very well in an audit — though they do sound like they’d arrive with glitter and choreography.
So, when you need your lifting equipment properly examined, remember: It’s LOLER — with an ER, like “Equipment Regulations.”
At Mechanical Inspection Services, we take care of the serious compliance work… and every now and then, help untangle the accidental typos that come along for the ride.
If you're unsure what you need, just ask — we promise not to break into song.
