Duty holders are responsible for ensuring lifts are examined at statutory intervals.
LOLER inspections must be carried out every 6 months for passenger lifts or 12 months for goods lifts to ensure they are safe to use.
Lifts and hoists used to lift people or loads must be examined by a ‘competent person’.
Any defects or faults with lifting equipment must be remedied promptly.
Accurate records and documentation must be kept and made available.

It is the responsibility of the companies that own, operate or control workplace equipment to ensure is is safe for intended use.
Regular maintenance of work equipment is required to ensure it's safe condition.
This includes equipment which employees provide for their own use at work.
For supplied machinery you will need to ensure that it conforms with the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations
You must ensure that the persons working with such machinery and equipment are adequately qualified and trained.

Duty holders are responsible under PSSR
The aim of these Regulations is to prevent serious injury from the hazard of stored energy as a result of the failure of a pressure system or one of its component parts.
If you are a user of an installed system, that is, one that is not a mobile system, such as a steam boiler, you are responsible
Before using any qualifying pressure equipment (new or otherwise), a written scheme of examination (WSE) must be in place, and an examination undertaken.
